Better Body 'Budder'

Updated: Apr 8, 2019

Living in the Pacific Northwest, the change of seasons always makes my skin dry and itchy. Us Diva's need to stay moisturized and making an herb infused body butter is the way to go. My favorite thing about this recipe is that it has no chemical emollients or artificial ingredients that can irritate delicate diva skin.

Green Gold: CBD flower infused body lotion (this is the actual product I made this week)

Equipment:

2 quart or larger saucepan

4 - 4 ounce sterilized jars or equivalent (16 oz total)

Cheesecloth or a very fine strainer

Ingredients:

7 -10 oz. decarboxylated cannabis (I used a high CBD strain) lightly chopped or broken apart

1 cup Jojoba oil or Almond oil (I did a mix of both because that's what I had)

1/2 cup refined coconut oil (use unrefined if you like the coconut smell)

1/2 cup beeswax pellets

4 Tbl Shea Butter

1 Tbl. Vitamin E oil

Essential Oils - I used 8 drops rosemary and 12 drops lavender. See notes below.

Combine the almond or jojoba, coconut oil and beeswax in your saucepan. Add crumbled or chopped cannabis flower. Keep the heat very low, about 160 degrees. Cook, stirring often for 2 hours.

Line a bowl, pitcher or 2 cup liquid measuring cup with cheesecloth or a fine strainer and pour the liquid over it to remove the flower residue. Your liquid should be a lovely green! Add the vitamin E oil and essential oils and stir.

Cool your liquid or even pop it into the fridge for a bit until it starts to solidify. Now the fun! Using stand mixer with the wire whisk attachment, a stick blender or hand blender whip the cooled oil into a creamy lotion. This could take 5-10 minutes at high speed or until you like the consistency.

Pour your liquid into sterilized glass jars, mason jars or other containers.

Because there are no preservatives in this product, I keep mine in the fridge and make smaller containers that can stay out of the fridge for a week at a time.

I think the herb in this product is contributing to calming my skin and I see reduced redness. It's oily at first but when it sinks in it's awesome. I usually use it when I'm hanging out at home because it DOES smell like rosemary/lavender pot and a dead giveaway you've rubbed cannabis all over yourself.

Notes:

  • For personal reasons, I don't purchase from multi level marketing companies and it's difficult to get a nice essential oil that's not MLM, expensive and pure. I order from a local company called https://www.naturesinventory.com/ because they have a pure manufacturing process.

  • Sterilization: Immerse in boiling water for 10 minutes. Do not use plastic containers because they get all wonky and misshapen (see my photo, lesson learned).

  • Use beeswax pellets because they are easier to measure and melt faster. I got mine on Amazon but I've seen them at the craft store too.

  • Decarb: Lay the flower on a cookie sheet and bake in a 220 degree oven for 30 minutes or more. This WILL stink up your whole house and probably the neighborhood so be warned.
